Last Call For Leakers

The video interview with Edward Snowden, the NSA leaker:

My carefully measured response:

Night, folks.

Well, in his case I'd guess because he was 17...

(The larger aggravating point about the many people who supported the PATRIOT Act but are not outraged (OUTRAGED I SAY!) by what the NSA has done with itself certainly stands, however.)

From the way you're reacting to all this, I'm starting to think you wanted this to be a republican ratfuck. Keep acting all disappointed and butthurt and you'll become the Glen Beck of the left.

Glenn Beck actually considers Snowden to be a hero.

The NSA patriot leaker is just yet another chance for America to regain
her moral compass and set things right. No red or blue JUST TRUTH

What does it say about people like Zandar when Beck is on the right side of history and "liberals" like Zandar worship the fucking police state? No red or blue, just truth. "It's a Republican ratfuck" is so much easier for people like Zandar to believe than the dark truth about Obama's police state.

Give up Zandar. You're outnumbered by even your long-time commenters, what few you have. Admit Obama failed us and that the Dems are no better than the Republicans on the national security state, apologize, and maybe you'll get readers back.

You're better than this childish shit.

Glen Beck is a useless sack of hypocrisy who cheered the Bush Administration when they did this type of thing illegally. Glen Beck then cheered Congress when they modified the mis-named Patriot Act to give the telecom companies immunity from being sued for cooperating with ilegal wiretapping operations. Now, Glen Beck is trying to blame President Obama for continuing the programs in the hope of replacing him with a Republican President - who would continue the programs as well.

That said, the widespread eavesdropping by the government (and by private industry, which is why everyone's panicking) needs to be made illegal. I'm sure that Glen Beck will claim that this weakened law enforcement after the next terrorist attack - and will blame Democrats for it.

This is exactly right. I hated what was done in my name with the PATRIOT Act under Bush, and I have been deeply disappointed that Obama chose to continue the consolidation of executive power rather than curtail it. He had a chance to nip it in the bud, but his failure to prosecute torture by the government and his embrace of excessive state secrecy has essentially insured that it will be the status quo from now on.

I have been proud of Obama's accomplishments on a great many things, and his presidency was unequivalently better than any of alternatives, even on this issue. Still, I'd hoped for a better record (even if I had not expected it).
